In March, 2000 I married our classmate Diane Markus and we remain together today. Her children have provided me with seven step grandchildren that are fun to follow.I'm in my twenty-sixth year as a member of the Idaho judiciary. I formally retired in January, 2018; but continue to work part-time as a judge. In 1975, I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Accounting. Between 1975 and 1980 I worked as a Certified Public Accountant with the international accounting firm of Touche Ross & Co. (now Deloitte LLP). I worked for the firm's offices in Boise, Seattle and Melbourne, Australia. In 1983, I graduated from the University of Idaho, College of Law. In 1985 and 1986, I worked as a trial attorney in the Ada County Public Defender's Office. From 1986 through 1992 I worked as a trial attorney focusing primarily on insurance defense for the law firm of Quane Smith Howard & Hull in Boise, Idaho. In 1993 and 1994 I was a trial attorney with the law firm of Rosholt Robertson & Tucker in Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1995, I was appointed as the Magistrate Judge in Owyhee County and served in that capacity for the next twelve years. In 2007, I was appointed by Governor Otter as a District Judge with chambers in Caldwell. I was elected by the other District Judges of the Third Judicial District to serve as the Administrative District Judge for a three year term beginning in February, 2012. Beginning in 2014 I was appointed to serve on the Idaho Judicial Council which oversees ethical complaints against Idaho's judges and works with the Governor in reviewing judicial applicants seeking appointment as a District Judge. I was appointed to the Juvenile Justice Commission by Governors Kempthorne, Risch and Otter and served from 1998 until 2012. In 2004 I was given the John Schuler Award for Outstanding Contribution to Juvenile Corrections by the Idaho Juvenile Justice Association. During my career, I served on the Statewide Drug Court and Mental Health Court Committee of the Idaho Supreme Court and presided over the Canyon County Drug Court for a five year period. I have been married to my wonderful wife, (Linda Patterson), since 1975. We have a son and a daughter and 3 granddaughters. Lots of girls in my house! I play baseball and tennis in my spare time, if I not working on my car, (1966 MGB). Travelled some, went to Scotland in 2007 and we are going back there next year, (I really like the place). When I think about High School, it doesn't seem that long ago but then I remember its been 40 years. My, how time flies when you're having fun.

![]() I am currently working as a Marketing / Business Development Director for an A/E firm just outside of DC. My son, Chace Mclellan (Marty - '70) has three beautiful daughters, and Amber continues her teaching career in Oregon. (she recently did volunteer work in Tanzania). I enjoy golf, fly fishing, biking, and plan to relocate to my mountain place in Damascus, VA within a few months. What a "trip" this has been for everyone from our Class of '71. I agree. This was an incredibly fast 40 years! I enrolled in Northwest Nazarene College in the fall, not really knowing what I wanted to major in. I did know I wasn't interested in Home Ec or in education but left it up to prayer. So of course I graduated with a degree in Home Economics Secondary Education and got a teaching job at Vale Union High School. It seems to have worked out pretty well as I taught there as the home ec, or the Family and Consumer Sciences techer, for 30 years until I retired in 2005 - loving nearly every min. After my first year of teaching I married John Mabey (NHS class of 1970) and we have 2 kids. Aaron is 30 and finishing at BSU with hopes of medical school. Megan is 3 years younger, working off and on through her third year at BSU and has the light of our lives - our 6-year-old grandson Zach. The newest phase of our lives has just started last summer. John now is a travel nurse so we put our belongings into storage, rented our house out and moved into a large RV. We move every few months to a new job assignment and are getting to experience new communities. So far, we have only been in Oregon and Idaho because of my mom and health issues, but now that she is okay our travels should branch out a little further afield. You never know where life will take you, do you? |

I've had a pretty good life, although it didn't go in any direction that I would have guessed at. In 2002 I married a man from Algeria and lived there for four years in the Sahara. When it's so hot you can feel your pores close when you walk outside, you're probably in the Sahara. I came home in 2006 and my husband finally got here in 2008. He, unfortunately, will not be with me at the reunion because he is returning home for a two-month visit. I have four wonderful grandchildren - 2 boys and 2 girls, ages 18, 14, 11, and 10. Time flies when you are watching grand children grow up! I would love to become a professional student! At this point I have a BA in Elementary Education, and recently earned an Associate's in Medical Billing and Coding. |
